Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS GRADUATED LICENSING?

In Ontario, the Graduated Licensing System allows new drivers to earn full driving privileges in two stages.

The first stage, G1, new drivers are learning and practicing skills under the supervision of a fully licensed driver.  (A driver who has more than 4 years experience as a G level driver).  New drivers remain at the G1 level for a period of one year or reduce this time to 8 months with the successful completion of a BDE course.

The second stage, G2, drivers have gained more experience and have passed a road test allowing them to drive independently.  Drivers remain in this stage for one year before they are eligible to complete a second road test to earn the full G license.

WHAT ARE THE RESTRICTIONS ON A G1 OR G2 LICENSE?

Restrictions for each driving level can be found here.

WHAT DOES THE FINDLEY’S DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM CONSIST OF?

Our Driver Education program consists of 20 hours of in-class training, 10 hours of flexible learning and 10 hours of in-car driving lessons.

WHAT IS FLEXIBLE LEARNING?

Students will receive a workbook during the first in-class session.  This workbook is to be completed by the student as part of a homework component.  The workbook will reinforce the in-class instruction by allowing students to identify driving situations and teach them to react safely and appropriately.

WILL I BE READY FOR THE G2 ROAD TEST AFTER 10 HOURS OF IN-CAR INSTRUCTION?

The 10 hours of In-Car instruction are intended to teach you the skills necessary to operate a vehicle safely.  However, when learning any new skill, practice is very important and necessary.  We strongly recommend that students practice between each of their lessons with a parent or another qualified driver.  It is recommended that all new drivers have approximately 50 hours of practice.  With the 10 hours of in-car training and sufficient practice, you should be ready for the G2 road test.

IS FINDLEY’S DRIVER EDUCATION A SCHOOL THAT IS RECOGNIZED BY THE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION?
